The foundations of the youth ministry at Epiphany:
INVITE students to know Jesus Christ;
INCLUDE them in relationships with other believers;
INVOLVE them in growing spiritually;
equip them to INVEST their gifts in service;
and INSPIRE them to live a life of worship.
As the youth group is starting to grow and take shape I am noticing some trends. There is the “die-hard” core-group that comes to everything. Then there are those who just come to either Sunday morning for the WIRED program or they just come for their small group (Tuned-IN). I just want to clarify the purpose of each so that you know what your student can get involved in.
Our Sunday morning “WIRED” programs (9:00 in Meeting Room #2 and 10:30 in the youth room) are primarily designed to fulfill the purpose of INVOLVING the teens in the growth of their spiritual lives. In fact, in one sense, Sunday mornings can be seen as an extension of Confirmation. The teens will be challenged theologically as well as being given the opportunity to engage in God’s Word through a variety of experiences.
Our small group program is called Tuned-IN and meets on Sunday nights. The Senior High meets from 7:00- 8:30 PM and the Junior High meets from 5:00-6:30 PM. The purpose of this program is designed to be very relational. Tuned-IN provides our students with a fun way to INVITE their friends to know Jesus Christ and INCLUDE them in relationships with other believers. As the program develops I want to see much more student input and involvement through music, drama, teaching and media technology. They will be encouraged to INVEST their gifts in reaching out to their friends.
Also, keep your eyes open for our Tuned-out evenings. These are nights in which we take the students out for some fun in order to deepen our relationships with one another and provide a fun opportunity for them to INVITE their friends to a fun and exciting way to get them connected within the youth group.
So get your teen involved and plugged-in to all of the opportunities available at our church! Don’t see these as an “either/or” but as a “both/and”.
